  THE OLD SCHOOL BUILDING

REDUCED PRICES FOR 2008

CHANGE OF BUILDING

On 10 April this year we finally completed the sale of the old building in Chubb Hill. As you can imagine, our thoughts were of two kinds: -

  • sadness for the closing of the building that had so many good memories attached to it, yet
  • a great joy that we had been finally able to complete the sale that we had been praying for.

At the time of writing, the building is almost entirely down (see the photo).

Because we have reduced our costs, we can now offer even better prices for our courses in 2008.

Our courses for 2008 start from 105 GB

Pounds per week.

Look at our Dates and Prices page for more details.

"Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; His love endures forever.

Let the redeemed of the Lord say this - those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south."

Psalm 107:1,2

We are now located in the beautiful setting of the Sneaton Castle Centre, about 1 mile from the centre of Whitby.

It is a lovely, peaceful place to learn, surrounded by gardens and fields, with views over the North Sea and the North Yorkshire Moors. We would be delighted to welcome you to our new school building.

SCHOOL NEWS

Last term we were happy to welcome Derryck Orridge back to lead morning prayers.

Lindsay and Angela Barber are teaching in the school this summer, along with Elinor Magowan, Alison Ashburner and Richard Thackrah.

I'm doing well here in Holland. As some of you already know, in less than 24 hours I'll be leaving for Israel (south) for my "Spring Outreach placement" for 4 weeks: ! I'll go with 2 other girls (one German and one Korean). Looking forward to see the place and to enjoy the activities there but I'm excited and tense at the same time, as this is my first time outside Europe...!! Please "intercede" for me, if you can and let me know your news as well!! I'll try to catch up with you more personally later!!!

Reporting back that now I am well and back in ministry and enjoying God's blessing. At the beginning of March I had a fever and headache and "ugh" taste in my mouth so went for malaria test. Report was no trace of malaria.
But I definitely had a fever so was given medication accordingly. A week later I was just as bad so we got the medicine for malaria and straight away I could feel the effect. I had malaria but through the medication it cleared though I was left feeling tired, with no energy and no appetite. So it was very hard to get going again. But now my appetite is returning and all is well.

While I was laid up I was listening to many of the message tapes I have. I enjoyed hearing the word and was greatly blessed. Also God was speaking to me and showed me 4 messages I needed to teach. Three of the messages I have already prepared and used at our church in Picha Ya Ndege and experienced such a joy as I was ministering and knew that there was an anointing upon the messages. For which all praise and thanks is to God. Folk were blessed and ministered to and I discovered they were talking together about what I had taught.

Last September, before selling the old building, we had a service to celebrate the people who over many years have contributed to making Functional English special.

PLEASE PRAY FOR . . .

As always, we have much to give thanks for, and it is easy to forget all that God does. We have to thank Him for:-

  • Providing Sneaton Castle as a place we can go to

  • The many hosts who have welcomed students into their houses since Jan 2006.

Please pray for…

  • Continued student bookings

  • That God may guide our future plans

Please pray for everyone affected by the changes to the school over the last two years.

Students from Functional English have been welcomed by many people from Whitby.

Many of you will recognise Carl & Marilyn Hudson (above).

NEWS FROM FORMER STUDENTS

Thank you for your letter, I'm very happy that I passed the exam and I'd like to thank you for all your help! It's horrible, my time in England is only some weeks ago and I've already forgotten so many things. I always try to repeat or to read a book, but mostly I just don't find the time! Anyway, I wish you a very good time. Be blessed!

Thank you for a wonderful time at your school in Whitby! I hope you are healthy and have a good time this term too. I have not practice my English very much since I came home, but I hope I will get some more time in the autumn. And I will read more books in the summer holyday. I have read two small books, and I like it very much. Saturday we will take our oldest boy home from the school where he has been a student this year. God bless you and the school!

Since I left Whitby in September in 2005, I've been studying and working in London. Only once I went back to Japan to see my family and friends but I already spent two years in UK. Thank you for supporting me when I stayed in Whitby. I remember Whitby and F.E. where I had such a lovely time with you and students clearly. These beautiful memories make me not only happy but sentimental. I really enjoyed playing violin on the boat, in the Irish pub. Rev, Stuart's house, local church and in the chapel in FE, I played everywhere! After coming back to London. I've studied violin with private lessons and played in some amateur orchestra in London. It was really nice opportunity to play in the orchestra. I wanted to visit Whitby sometime but because of my visa expiry, I'm going back to Japan. I will look for a job, especially a nursing job. I will miss England very much but I'm sure to come back to here again as soon as I prepare! Before going back to Japan, I have a plan to travel Europe for a week.

I'm now studying in a nursing school, I'm really happy, because the subjects do interest me a lot. I'll start again a practice period next week (in a house for elderly people). Last weekend I went near Stuttgart, In Germany, to visit Jamin. He's in a family since October and he'll stay there for 1 year, God willing. His German is getting better and better. He takes care of the man who is disabled. He already have a lot of Christian friends from the church or youth group. The are very nice and friendly. I hope everything is OK with the school, and that the teachers and all the team is doing well.
